And so the epic begins...
Alright, time for the next exciting episode of
“Post on Matt’s Blog”!!!
Hahaha…now I’ve suckered you into reading this, I just have to write boring stuff from now on, and maybe I’ll finish it off with some other exclamation, so you might be under the impression that the whole thing was full of rip-roaring action!
Anyway, what to write…come to think of it, why am I posting in the first place? Now, if you’re anything like me, you have to know why you’re going to do something if you want the energy/motivation to do it well, unless I’ve been doing the same thing over and over again for ages and it’s just a force of habit, good or bad. I guess that’s part of my perfectionist personality. On one hand, if I do something with a full understanding of it and what lies behind it, then I can really do it well. On the other hand, if I don’t understand it very well, I often get hung up on what I don’t understand or feel uncomfortable with continuing until I do know, and end up never getting around to doing it, or at least move through considerably slowly.
As such, I have been considering what the point of this blogging is, and what sort of stuff I will post, namely, how much am I to reveal about myself and my thoughts.
Firstly, the most obvious point of blogging would be for keeping in touch with people, especially if I don’t see them often. But this isn’t particularly relevant for me, although I guess since I don’t flat or live in close proximity to everyone else, I don’t see half of you half as much as I would like, and when I do I don’t have half the time to discuss half of what I want to, and half of you probably don’t know me half as much as you should anyway. And somehow, that leads to my other reason for blogging, and that is so that you may all get to know me better. For this reason, blogging is particularly useful, since although my extraverted tendencies will often come to the fore when there’s fun to be had, when more serious discussion is afoot, I’m often a lot more introverted and am much more of a listener than a talker. Perhaps I’m still finding the confidence to share my thoughts and feelings with others, so this is as good a place as any build upon that confidence. In addition, you may see another side to me and realise that I’m not a complete nut (although don’t let that discourage you from voting on Michelle’s poll for who the nuttiest friend is!)
So, to what extent will I divulge on the intricacies of my life? I guess I consider myself as a relational person; there is very much a side of me that wants to share everything, and to tell the truth, I don’t really know how much I really should, especially on a public platform such as this. I think there is a degree of danger in opening yourself up too much, as (for me anyway), there is a tendency to expect that if you do, your life will be richer for it (I mean, from an investment point of view, you’d expect some sort of return, right? :) ). Maybe I’m being too cautious, I can really be a coward when it comes to this sort of thing. Perhaps I’ll err on the side of caution for now, I think ideally the level of disclosure would be similar to that of a personal testimony.
That leads to another reason for blogging too, that my experiences and situations may encourage others who are in a similar position. After all, what’s the point of doing anything if its of no use to anyone? And in writing them down at least, it’s a way to sort through the chaos in my brain, and hey, there’s the opportunity to get some feedback from all of you lovely people!
Okay, I’m starting to get all serious-ed out. As you can see, I do think too much sometimes. I guess another reason for posting on the reasons for blogging, is just the simple fact that I’m ‘breaking the ice’ as a prelude to other serious posts.
Now of course, another, and fundamentally important reason for blogging, is entertainment. Now if you’ve got some time to spare, you probably don’t want to spend it all on the serious business of deep and meaningful discussions (as great as they are)… that is, if you’ve got time to spare, as opposed to the satisfying business of procrastinating, which of course, is completely not what I’m doing right now [sarcastic overtones].
So be assured, there will be no shortage of crazy, random going-ons on this blog, seasoned with a hint of sanity here and there!
Alright then, this short post looks like its turning into an ‘epic novel script’, but hey, I’ve got two weeks worth of non-posting to make up for!
So don’t forget to tune in next time, for the next amazing episode of Extreme blogging with Matt!!!
